This gold ladies Rolex watch is a very early antique example and is in working order, keeping reasonably good time for a watch of this age.
The case is hallmarked 15ct yellow gold with ‘W&D’ for Wilsdorf & Davis as the sponsor’s mark.
It is assayed with a London import mark and date letter ‘r’ for 1912!
The case measures approx. 24mm in width excluding the crown.
The watch has a very attractive enamel bezel with gold Arabic numbers showing through, which catch the light nicely. The crystal has a degree of age related scratches.
The movement is marked ‘Rolex 15 Jewels’, ‘Swiss Made’ and has a machine turned finish.
The hinge of the case back is broken (see photos) but the back fits tightly so the watch is perfectly wearable as it is. It is actually very hard to notice the issue with the hinge at all, unless you open the back.
It looks like the back hinge has been repaired in the past but is now missing the two barrels/sleeves and the hinge pin. A competent jewellery maker could easily repair the hinge. The hinge barrel on the case side is still okay and the hinge on the front cover is in good order.
The case back has an ornately engraved monogram and also engraved with the date: 26/4/13, tying in with the hallmark year.
The bracelet is an expanding type and stamped ‘1/10 12ct Rolled Gold’.
